Instructions for Reporting Damage
In Belgium, we deal with Belgian law, and to avoid issues during the claims process, here are some tips:

• Fill out the accident report at the scene together with the other party. Don’t forget to sign it! We often encounter cases where the report is filled out later, and the other party may alter the facts (they might lie). This makes it harder and sometimes even impossible to claim damages from the other party.

• Don’t forget to fill in the back of the accident form. You can do this at home. Afterward, send the completed claim form to us.

• If someone witnessed the accident, ask for their name and phone number. They may serve as a witness for you.

• Take photos of the situation—damage to your vehicle and the other party’s vehicle. This will help the insurance company better understand what happened.

• If someone is injured, one of the cars has significant damage, or if the other vehicle has a foreign license plate, call the police! The Belgian police are not required to come for minor damage to both vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

In the event of an accident or collision on a public road in Belgium, you must complete a claim form/damage report form.

Information to be provided on the form:

  1. Details about the parties involved in the incident, such as:
  • The name and address of the drivers.
  • The vehicle registration plates.
  • Any other relevant details relating to the people involved in the accident.

Every vehicle is required to have third-party liability (BA) insurance. In most cases, your BA insurer will compensate the damage and recover the costs from the other party. If there is no mutual agreement between insurers, the insurer of the other party will compensate the damage.
