How to Apply for a Belgian License Plate

If you have been staying in Belgium for more than 4 months, it is mandatory to drive with a Belgian license plate. If you don’t comply and have an accident, there’s a high chance that your foreign car insurer will not cover the damages. Additionally, you risk fines from the Belgian police. Even if the police do not check your vehicle immediately, they can do so at any time. Switching from a foreign license plate to a Belgian one is very simple!

Below are the steps you need to follow:

1. Download the E705 document from the Customs page of the customs office (instructions provided).

2. All your details will be registered with Customs, and with the provided proof, go to your local DIV (Dienst voor Inschrijvingen van Voertuigen) in Belgium. The vehicle will be subject to inspection.

3. Contact the insurance company issuing your policy and obtain the pink form, which is required to apply for a license plate.

4. Go to the DIV (Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport) to obtain your license plate. We recommend completing steps 2 and 3 at the same time.

It’s that simple! Secure your Belgian license plate quickly and enjoy worry-free driving with the reliable insurance from Polisa.be.
